Vehicle Keys

Key Modes

Choose Flexible, Limited or Virtual keys for your server

Choose a setup

ModeKey typeWhen a player needs a keySharing from /keyring
Flexible (default)Inventory itemReuses a held or stored key, then creates one if allowedCreates a copy; the sender keeps theirs
LimitedInventory itemUses a fixed starting set (2 by default)Gives away the sender's copy
VirtualNo inventory itemIssues access when allowedShares access; the sender keeps theirs

Owners need valid keys too. Keys don't grant garage collection permission.

Set up keys

Choose the mode

Set Config.KeyMode in config/config.lua:

config/config.lua
Config.KeyMode = "flexible" -- "flexible", "limited" or "virtual"

Restart the resource

Restart jg-vehiclekeys.

Adjust gameplay settings

Open /vehiclekeysadmin > Settings > Keys, then save your changes:

  • Starting keys sets Limited's initial total from 1 to 10. Existing valid copies count towards it. Missing copies are stored with the vehicle.
  • Key copies > Key limit per vehicle caps physical copies. 0 means unlimited.

Limited creates each vehicle's starting set on its first start. Changing Starting keys later only affects vehicles without a set. Lost keys must be found or replaced through a locksmith or administrator.

Fobs and animations

All modes include fobs, giving, throwing and ground inspection. Set Config.KeyPropsEnabled = false in config/config.lua to disable held props, inspection, dropping and throwing. Fob menus and direct giving remain available.

Parking and collection

For JG Advanced Garages, open /vehiclekeysadmin > Settings > Vehicles > JG Advanced Garages:

  • Keys after parking stores held physical copies with the vehicle or lets players keep them. Collection returns one stored copy. Virtual access is kept.
  • Give a key on collection allows new Flexible keys or Virtual access. Stored keys return even when it's off. An exhausted Limited set never refills on collection.

Parking leaves other players' keys, stashed keys and dropped keys valid.

Changing modes

Switching between Flexible and Limited keeps existing physical keys and saved settings. Returning to Limited starts a new set, counting existing valid copies towards the total.

Virtual converts carried physical keys into access without inventory items. Stashed and dropped keys don't immediately grant access. Switching back requires players to obtain physical keys again.

If startup reports an unfinished conversion, return to Virtual and let it finish before selecting a physical mode.
